The Institute of Optics sadly announces the passing away of its second director (1966-1974) and advisor of CSIC during the years of the democratic transition, Prof. Lorenzo Plaza.
Prof. Lorenzo Plaza passed away last August 15th at age of 89. Fellow and collaborator of Prof. Otero, founder of the Institute of Optics, CSIC, and of Prof. Deane B. Judd of the National Bureau of Standards (Washington DC), he played a key role in the Institute of Optics development during the years following its foundation. A recognized researcher in the field of Visual Optics and Colour, he was a sharp, inquisitive, and unconventional scientist, and several generations recognize his legacy. An active person, his participation was important in the foundation of the Colour Spanish Committee and the Spanish Optical Society, of which he was its first Secretary and later President (1972-1975). He will be sorely missed.
