Optical and Visual Quality With Physical and Visually Simulated Presbyopic Multifocal Contact Lenses
Optical and Visual Quality With Physical and Visually Simulated Presbyopic Multifocal Contact Lenses
As multifocal contact lenses (MCLs) expand as a solution for presbyopia correction, a better understanding of how they work is essential.
Also, providing subjects with the experience of multifocal vision prior to contact lens fitting becomes critical.

A Simultaneous Vision Visual Simulator (SimVis) allows patients to experience multifocal corrections before intraocular lens implantation or contact lens wear.

In this study, we evaluated the ability of the visual simulator SimVis, developed by CSIC spin-off company 2EyesVision, to represent these MCL lenses. Through the approach, the optical and visual quality was measured with an aspheric MCL close to the center using a multichannel polychromatic Adaptive Optics visual simulator equipped with double-pass channels, SimVis (temporal multiplexing) and psychophysical to allow measurements on the bench and in vivo. .

The article published in TVST shows that simultaneous visual simulators allow subjects to experience multifocal vision in a non-invasive way. We demonstrate the equivalence between real multifocal contact lenses and simulated lenses with SimVis, suggesting that SimVis is a suitable technique to aid selection of presbyopic corrections in the contactology practice.

The work is a collaboration between the Instituto de Óptica (CSIC), EyesVision, Byers Eye Institute at Stanford University, and Johnson & Johnson Vision
