The last biomimetic article of the laser processing group has just been published, in which they study the possibilities of processing by ultra-short pulse lasers of surfaces to provide them with special properties that surfaces existing in nature have.
To achieve this, modifications are made to the material at multiple (hierarchical) length scales, leading to complex micro and nano scale biomimetic patterns, while adding a new dimension to structure optimization.
Due to the diversity of biomimetic functionalities of the surface, the inspirations of natural surfaces are interesting for a wide range of engineering applications, including adhesion, friction, wear, lubrication, wetting phenomena, self-cleaning, antifouling, antibacterial phenomena , thermoregulation and optics.
