Today, the ceremony for the Second Edition of the Photon Awards of the IO-CSIC was held in the assembly hall of the CSIC headquarters. The awards were given by our Vice President of Organization and Institutional Relations, Víctor Velasco.

The awards are part of the program of activities celebrating the International Day of Light, which began to commemorate last year 2018, making it coincide with the date (May 16) in which the first emission of a laser was achieved.

These prizes, also established in 2018, are awarded annually to the best dissemination works and teaching projects of primary and secondary education in the field of Optics and Photonics.

In the Photon Issued category, the members of the jury unanimously agreed to award the first prize to Laura Chaparro, for her work entitled "La nueva era de los materiales invisibles", and the second prize to Susana Eva Martínez, for her script of the work of scientific theater "Grabado en la Retina".

In the Absorbed Photon category, the activity Engañando a la Vista, by IES Diego Velázquez de Torrelodones (Madrid), was unanimously presented by professors Pablo Cassinello, Cristina Somolinos, Ana Camarero and Diego Valdes,
In addition, an accésit has been granted to the activity Escape Room "El legado de Galileo. Características de la luz", from the Cristo Rey de Zaragoza School, presented by Juan Torre Sáez De Guinoa, Encarnita Ramos, María José Lahoz and Nerea Lasheras.

In addition, the awards ceremony counted with the collaboration of IOSA, which prepared several optical experiments, which they collect in their book entitled "Descubriendo la luz. Experimentos divertidos de óptica" at the entrance of the room so that visitors of the event could see them in addition to a solar clock on the outside of the building.

To close the event, Fernando Gomollón, the winner of the Photon Emitted Award last year, offered an enthusiastic informative talk about the light and history of purple dye and how this fact helped to develop and advance the science and the chemical industry.
