The researcher of the Superior Council of Scientific Investigations (CSIC) Susana Marcos has been awarded by the Royal Academy of Exact, Physical and Natural Sciences with the Santiago Ramón y Cajal Medal.
This distinction recognizes the international trajectory of Marcos' work, for his "totally multidisciplinary research program, using concepts of physics, optics, biology, biomechanics, ophthalmology and neuroscience to understand the basic mechanisms of human vision, develop diagnostic instruments in ophthalmology. and to invent new optical solutions for the correction of the most common vision problems ", according to the website of the Royal Academy of Exact, Physical and Natural Sciences.
The medal also rewards the contribution of the CSIC scientist to the academic field as well as to the transfer of technology, as well as the impact of her research work in basic science, the clinical community and the ophthalmic industry.
