Informative lecture on the evolution of communication systems based on visual and light signals along history, with special emphasis on the revolution for the world of telecommunications have led since the second half of the twentieth century, fiber optics and the appearance of the laser.

  A brief review of the characteristics of modern fiber communication systems will, and some possibilities about the future evolution of these will venture.
