Xoana Barcala, second prize at the 2022 Margarita Salas Awards in the category of basic sciences

Second prize is for his thesis doctoral "Binocular Simultaneous Vision Visual Simulator: validation and implementation of Sim+Vis technology in the clinic".

Xoana carried out her doctoral thesis with an industrial doctorate contract from CAM, under the supervision of Prof. Susana Marcos (IO-CSIC) and Dr. Carlos Dorronsoro ( 2EyesVision). Thanks to the work of this industrial doctoral thesis (defended on 10/29/2021) the SimVis Gekko has gone from being a research prototype to a commercial product.

The awards are a recognition of the work of Margarita Salas and are dedicated to rewarding those doctoral theses defended at universities in the Community of Madrid, which stand out for their scientific excellence, the scientific and social interest of the subject, their innovative character, as well as the practical applications of the research content.
These awards have 3 categories: basic sciences, life sciences and environmental sciences.
The jury was made up of 10 renowned researchers from different Spanish research organisations.
