Start of the METASCALE project financed by a Marie Skłodowska-Curie contract awarded to our colleague Carlota Ruiz de Galarreta
Madrid / September 19, 2023
This September the project led by our colleague Carlota Ruiz de Galarreta from the Laser Processing group began, titled “Ultrafast Laser Assembly of Metasurfaces with Large Scale Fabrication Capabilities” (METASCALE).
The project will also have the collaboration of the University of Exeter / Center for Metamaterials Research and Innovation.

However, the realization of metasurfaces is currently based on very precise, but at the same time slow and expensive, nanofabrication techniques, and therefore beyond the capabilities of most companies.
Therefore, the METASCALE project will focus on exploring the potential and limitations of laser processing techniques for the fabrication of high-performance optical metasurfaces designed to operate in different spectral regimes. These processes will be energy efficient, cost-effective and for large-scale production, making them highly appropriate for today’s industrial environments.
The project is funded by the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions programme, which are within the Horizon Europe Programme. This type of funding is intended to support the training and professional development of research staff around the world through the funding of excellent doctoral programs, individual postdoctoral projects and collaborative projects.
