Madrid / November 11, 2024
This month, we will be holding the IO Scientific Café on Monday 25th with the talk “Journey through the crystal” by María Eva Nieto from the Laser Processing group. It will be at 11:00 a.m. in the Conference Room (S121), followed by coffees in the Club+Terraza.
Summary of the talk
Crystals are one of the materials that have most aroused the interest of humans since the beginning of history. Their structure, growth, size and properties have been studied in depth to achieve an infinite number of industrial and technological applications. Today, in the middle of the Silicon Age, interest in nanometric-scale crystals and 2D structures is growing. And that’s what we do; At GPL we have developed a simple and effective method for obtaining thin films of MoO3 crystals that are only about 20 nm thick.
How do we manage to form crystals on such small scales? How do we study their structure and properties? And, most importantly: what are they used for?!
