We are looking for candidates for a 4-year predoctoral contract at the Institute of Optics.
The objective of the position is to carry out a doctoral thesis within the framework of the TEC-10124/COM-322 project (“Improved Deep Learning for Computer Vision”), belonging to the 2024 Call – for “Campaign R&D Activities in Technologies Programs”.

Candidates who are currently studying the master’s degree but have not completed it are accepted.

Research area: Image processing and vision.

Supervisors: Eduardo Martínez Enríquez and Javier de la Portilla Muelas.

Abstract: The thesis project proposes new forms of image representation and their impact on visual tasks in both human subjects and artificial intelligence systems. In this context, specific models of different aspects of human vision will be addressed, with the ultimate goal of developing tools to improve vision.

Contract duration: 4 years.

Contract amount: Approx. 1,800€/month.

Additional aid: Expenses derived from short stays in R&D centres and/or attendance at conferences, as well as registration for doctoral courses.

Expected incorporation: First quarter of 2025.

Requirements: Be able to enroll in a doctoral program or be studying a master’s degree in the areas of: Data Science, Engineering, Applied Mathematics or Physics. Candidates who are currently studying the master’s degree without having completed it are accepted. In this case, partial remuneration will be paid for completing the master’s degree, provided there is commitment and motivation to complete the thesis in the following three years.
Additionally, knowledge of Matlab/Python, statistics, data analysis, signal and image processing and machine learning algorithms will be valued. Strong motivation for computer and/or biomedical applications. Ability to independently address and solve problems.
Oral and written communication skills.
