Instituto de Óptica “Daza de Valdés”

On Tuesday, July 15, Pabel Cheben will hold a seminar entitled “Metamaterial integrated photonics.”

Divulgación

  • Pavel Cheben is a senior research fellow at the National Research Council of Canada and a leading expert in the field of integrated photonics and subwavelength metamaterials.
  • The seminar will take place in the conference room of the Institute of Optics (C/Serrano, 121) at 11:00 a.m.

Madrid / July 2, 2025

Summary of the talk:

Subwavelength metamaterials are periodic structures with a pitch smaller than the wavelength of light. When implemented in photonic waveguides, they act as effective media with engineered optical properties, enabling unprecedented control over light propagation in integrated circuits [1,2]. In this seminar, Dr. Pavel Cheben (National Research Council Canada), a leading figure in the field, will give an overview of the fundamental principles of subwavelength structures and their implementation in integrated photonics [3,4]. The talk will show how these structures are expected to enhance the performance of the next generation of photonic devices, with impact across different fields such as communications, sensing, signal processing or spectroscopy [1,2,5].
