Dare to be a scientist

Do you dare to be a scientist?”

“You dare to be a scientist” is an activity organized by a group of six scientists from different CSIC institutes (Cajal Institute, Institute for the Structure of Matter, Institute of Fundamental Physics, Institute of Optics and Instituto de Química Física Rocasolano), which will give lectures aimed at girls and boys between the ages of 14 and 16, in various Secondary Education Institutes in Madrid, as well as in the Museum of Natural Sciences and at the Museum of Science and Technology.

In the talks, the biography of great scientific researchers will be exposed and, in addition, the results of some surveys on the referents and academic interests of boys and girls, previously completed by the students themselves (about 600 in total) will be presented and discussed. ). The objective is to make the work of women scientists visible and encourage girls and boys to study and work in the field of science and engineering. The project has been running since 2018 and this course is funded by the FECYT, which has allowed a greater number of Institutes to be visited and and to analyze the surveys in a more complete way with the collaboration of the Andaira company, specialized in consultancy and social research.
